General Discussion / Value on a early diecast
« on: June 15, 2015, 04:54:58 pm »
I know that early sandcast is valuable, but how popular would diecast number CB750-1007489 with engine CB750E-1007548 be? As far as I have found out, this also have a sandcast engine, I am not sure yet, but it looks like that. It would be bike number 75 of the diecast series, and I have never seen an earlier frame than this. The bike is bad, but can still be restored.

As far as I know and found out, is that the CB750 racing type was the four bikes that Honda built for Daytona 200 in 1970. some people say that they have a different steel in the frame. It also have a welded bracket on the frame for the steering damper. As for the engine, it looks right that it has 61.5mm bore, as it was max. 750ccm that counts.

In 71 or 72, Honda built some CR750, where CR stands for Client Racer, and then introduced the racing kit that was sold for private racers. The CR has hinged clip-ons, and a separate bracket for the steering damper, placed where the ignition bracket is. The first series of CR-parts was numbered 970 and there was a later series and modifications that got 971. As the first series of CR31 carbs was sandcasted, the later was diecasted and got number 971. Most of the engine parts is different from a stock engine.

Do you have some photo's to share? I am soon start to build a Cr750 myself, and have collected some parts for it, but it is a long way to go...

Member's Bikes / Re: Chris Rushton's High Mileage Sandcast
« on: January 06, 2013, 05:00:17 am »
I see that there is someone who think that a sandcast have high milage here. There is a man here in Norway who is 68, and bought his sandcast in 69. He has sold it 2 or 3 times, but always bought it back. He still ride it, and say he is a biker, not a "chrome polisher" He ride the bike summer and winter, and do a 700 km trip with only stop for filling gas and the on the road again.

His bike has in August 2012 gone 570.000 km, or about 350.000 miles.... he has replaced piston one time, and the primary chain and cam chain, the rest is still original.

His solution on the long milage: Replace oil every 3000km with castrol GTX

Exhaust / Re: Muffler, what are correct?
« on: December 15, 2011, 08:16:33 am »
From CMS I see that the baffles change at 4149 as Steve say (Lotus root) , but there was also made a change on the 2 upper muffler and the footpeg bolt on serial number 1222. Does anyone know what that change was on the mufflers (the bolts I know about, but I think that was together with the lotus root change on 4149, but I see that I was wrong about that)

So, the early no no lotus root muffler that Yamia have reproduced, wich one is that?

I have used HTS200 to fix fins like that on a couple of CB92, works great, and you dont have to cut out other pieces.

Exhaust / Muffler, what are correct?
« on: February 19, 2010, 07:41:42 pm »
Hi!
1.
I have bought a sandcast with frame no. 2996 and I am not shure what's the right muffler for it. Now there is a set of very good HM300.
When I look at the part book, I see that there is a change from no.1221 on the upper muffler. Other people say that it is "unmarkd" up to about 3500, then the HM300 comes.
Does anybody know whats rightfor this bike?

2. If I need a set of unmarked, I guess this is hard to find. I see that Yamia have some repros. Does anybody know how good this are?

3. The protector on the muffler, shall this be in dull chrome, or Cd/Zn plated?

Thanks, Jan.
