General Discussion / Front fenders seem hard to come by
« on: January 21, 2011, 02:25:33 pm »
Well, I finally own a real double cut fender....I know, real exciting huh??  BUT part of this hobby is the treasure hunt.  I bought this on ebay and I was a little skeptical because the fender strut had been modified.  But I just opened the box and so far I am happy because the fender itself is a real double cut as far as I can tell (the inside folds do not come all the way to the end, and the front is longer than a fakie), and the strut can be returned to stock and the fender looks totally fixable/restorable to me.  I believe my chrome/resto shop can make this fender look as new without too much trouble.

One piece at a time...my sandies get more and more correct....

here is the ebay link:

Any comments or feedback welcome, I want this fender to be correct when I am done....I know the little welded on loop for the front brake line does not belong.

General Discussion / A big thanks to the contributors of this site!
« on: December 18, 2010, 12:23:17 pm »
I just wanted to say thanks to the guys who have posted so much great technical info on this site.  I know it takes a lot of time to take good pics and upload them and all.  I now have my 2 sandcasts restored and both in ridable condition, both built from parts and so they are far from all correct as I used many CB750 parts that were simple available to me so I could finish.  This took me about 5 years.  My next goal is to make them as correct as possible, one part at a time.  I am pretty sure that will take me another 5 years at least!  But, it would be a very difficult task without the resources of this website.  I have just recently been reading everything on this site and learning about all the nuances of correct parts and I am sincerely grateful to all the contributions made by the experts here.  I will try to be a contributor as I go so as to give back as I have certainly gained much from the info here.

Merry X-mas all!

Fellow Forum Members,

mrdeza is now mad matt.

My handle on most other forums is mad matt so I wanted to change it up here just for consistency, not sure why I signed up as mrdeza in the first place.  I also have a website and you tube channel called mad matts garage so once again, I wanted to change it up for consistency.  Just wanted to let everyone know just to avoid confusion.

General Discussion / Just Finishing my second sandcast
« on: August 07, 2010, 11:57:42 pm »
I know I don't post here much but I was just excited about finishing up my Sandcast #2.   I restored a sandcast about 4 years ago, my first one.  It was a basket case but the motor and frame came from the same bike and I have no reason to believe it's not an original matching numbers bike.  I had to buy most everything else one piece at a time.  I managed to get most of the correct parts for it. In these pics I had aftermarket air filters on it just because I wanted to ride it and not ruin my restored air box.

In my parts search for Sandcast #1 I managed to buy another frame (was a whole bike without sandcast motor) and then I managed to find a motor, Frame number CB750-1005184, Motor number CB750E1004942.  I really could not believe I found a motor with the numbers within the correct range.  Anyhow, it may not be an original but it's now a beautiful running sandcast that was just a bunch of scrap parts that were scattered over the cosmos.  I still love it and I feel like Dr Frankenstein who created a new life!

I had assembled most of the bike almost 2 years ago and I have been waiting to come up with the $$ to finish it.  But business has been slow and the play $$ needed has been tough to come by.  I need the seat, pipes, instruments, plug key switch, paint job, and I am sure a few other things.  The rest of the bike is as new so these items need to be as new as well.  Anyhow, I got tired of waiting and decided to get her up and running just using whatever parts I have correct or not.  I threw a plastic pan duckbill seat I have, and some kerker headers, and some instruments just to be functional.  I just used a spare tank and headlight shell until I can get a whole painted set going (gonna do that real soon) .  I did a whole bunch of videos of the final steps and I just wanted to share them here.

Would love to hear comments or suggestions or whatever.  I belong to the VJMC and have brought my sandcast #1 to some of the Phoenix, AZ gatherings and I have not seen any other sandcast's in AZ.  I feel fortunate to have 2 of them, now both running!

Cheers,

Matt

I completed my first sandcast restoration not too long ago. I still have some things I want to re-do or finish on it. I am working on a second sandcast right now. Both are ground up restorations, all new bearings, pistons, etc. Here is the link to the pics:

Parts Wanted / Instruments and Cylinder Studs
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:11:51 pm »
I am a newbie here so just as an introduction I am restoring a sandcast frame # CB750-1004294/CB750E-1004048. I also have a second sandcast frame/motor, and have not really decided what to do with it yet. I also have a 1970 K0 I am using as a daily rider and as an assembled reference.

Seem to remember seeing somewhere that someone in Japan makes repro K0 instrument housings. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, I will mention I am having my machine shop make some engine studs. When I tried to buy new ones, I was told the short ones are no longer available. If there are any other sources for these, I would like to hear about it. If they truly are hard to come by, if any one else needs a set, let me know so I can tell them how many sets to make
