Hi BenelliSEI!

Welcome!

Ive been following your posts on the SOHC site. Very exciting. You clearly have excellent taste in bikes!

You also appear to have come across a nice sandcast there. Congrats! Double-cut front fender, three digit engine, correct forks, front brake, exhaust (cant see if there are numbers on it) and more...very exciting! Maybe a rolled rear rim? As you probably know, the engine and frame likely aren't original to each other. Hopefully, you can work out the dent in the tank and preserve the original paint. How's the engine? Stuck?

Depending on the rust, this could be a candidate for a nice survivor. Otherwise, it will be a fun restoration job.

What do you plan to do with it?

Oh yeah, nice poster in your garage too :)

Agreed, this is a nice bike. Curious what it goes for. The sandcast on Bringatrailer.com and the Hagerty article has a lot of people talking about sandcasts these days!

Kp, my guess is the seller will take $15k for it.

And you are right. I am spoiled! :)

That bike is a mess. I would stay away from it personally unless it went under $10k. Controls, bars and all the stuff KP mentioned are wrong with it. The tank is a wrinkle tank from what I have been shown (pic forwarded to me from someone considering it). I wonder what they were thinking with the oil tank cover. Not only is it the wrong version, but they clearly widened it to fit over the tank. Thats a bit of work to still be incorrect!

Agreed. It will take another $15k at least to make it a bike. Sheesh

This is great. I think we need a better way to talk about the model distinctions. With photos and descriptions for each entry.

Be careful. If you plan to ride the bike, plain steel will rot super fast.

Very nice! Are they plated?

Ive never done it myself, but I know a lot of folks over at the SOHC forum have.

That is an awesome photo from 1983. Shows how important these bikes are to you! Really cool.

Front End and Suspension / Re: Rear shocks on a 1969

Yes, though they are almost certainly not going to perform well. 51 year old shocks will likely have failed seals and no oil left in them. Fine for display, but they won’t ride as well has a fresh set of shocks.

All sandcast and diecast K0 bikes used the same shock through VIN CB750-1048752 according to the honda parts book. Don't trust Z1 and many ebay sellers when they label something as correct for a sandcast. Easy to do when there is no penalty for being wrong!

I have used this shock on a diecast in the past:

It is ok, but not a great replica. The shock sold by Yamiya and others that KP pointed out is much closer to being correct. Original shocks are tough to find, but would be everyone's first choice!
