Front End and Suspension / Fork Oil Recommendation
« on: July 25, 2021, 11:05:57 pm »
Hi,

What fork oil and weight do you recommend?  What is stated in the owners manual, which is not actual fork oil.

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Engine Oil with Zinc
« on: April 13, 2020, 07:07:53 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I saw an earlier topic about oil (synthetic) and several of you like the non-synthetic Kendall oil.  I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on using engine oil that contains zinc.  I heard several years (decades) ago they removed zinc from oil because it ruined catalytic converters.  But that zinc really helped engines, especially flat cam engines.  Since many of us have the 1969/1970 bikes I thought it would be a good idea to use this type of oil.  Lucas Oil sells a 10-30, 10-40 & 20-50 Hot Rod & Classic brand with Zinc and other additives for older designed engines.  Please let my know your thoughts.

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Candy Blue/Green Shade Differences
« on: October 15, 2019, 08:50:39 pm »
Hi,

I have a blue/green sandcast that was painted a few years ago.  The shade seems lighter than the original factory Honda blue/green.  I am aware that the sun and/or shade can make a difference.  I looked at photos on Yahoo images and can almost tell immediately a newer lighter color than an older darker original color shade.  Even Vic World's Honda Museum bike looks lighter than original.  Let me know your thoughts and please upload photos of original vs. new for comparison.  I looked at Steve Swan's bike on the Gallery page and his original bike looks darker than the newer painted one further down the page.

I uploaded some photos of my bike inside and outside and one I found on the internet that looks to me original Honda.

Either way I wish mine was darker.

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Happy 50th Birthday CB750 Sandcasts!
« on: May 24, 2019, 07:05:20 pm »
Most days this year 2019 our sandcast engines were casted 50 years ago.  According to my case CB750E-1004646 was cast on July 23, 1969.  Now this is where it gets interesting... My birthday is March 16, 1970.  Going back about 8 to 9 months from my birthday there is a good chance I was conceived on the same day!  What are the chances of that?    :o

General Discussion / Lotus Roots vs. HM300's
« on: June 17, 2017, 09:15:25 pm »
Hello All,

Now that some of you fortunate ones have owned Lotus Roots for awhile (and Yamiya is selling them at a much more reasonable cost making them more accessible for more - $2250 US + shipping) how do you compare them to HM300's?  In Yamiya's advertisement for the Lotus Roots they state that they are *For racing purpose only and not for highway use*.

LOTUS ROOTS:

1. Do those that own them agree that they are for racing only?

2. How does the sound compare?  Louder, deeper, better sound?

3. Do they provide better performance with less exhaust restriction?

4. Would you recommend purchasing them over the HM300's?

5. Are they worth the extra cost over the HM300?

6. Please add to this list if I am missing anything.

Thank you for your input.

General Discussion / 1969 Complete Tool Kit
« on: May 14, 2017, 10:08:49 pm »
Hello,

Can somebody who has the original 1969 complete tool kit please take a photo of it so I can see what is included?  I think I have everything now but I just want to make sure.  Also does anyone know what the file is supposed to be used for?

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Loss of 100% Oil Pressure
« on: June 23, 2014, 10:15:56 am »
I started my sandcast a couple of months ago after a complete top and bottom end rebuild.  I meticulously cleaned all of the parts and assembled everything properly.  I installed an oil gauge to the side of the engine.  It is the non-oil type of gauge so it will continue to show oil pressure even when the engine is hot.  The oil gauge showed good pressure each start-up.  Then, I took my first ride and went about 22 miles.  During the ride (around 17 miles) I noticed the oil gauge dropped to zero.

I purchased another oil gauge hoping the gauge broke, but when I installed it the gauge still shows zero.  The needle doesn't move during idle or revving.  I think I have total blockage somewhere, but I do not know where to begin.  I was thinking about to start by going to the easy to get to areas first, such as the oil filter, oil tank hoses, oil pan, side covers and valve cover.

The engine oil light isn't working, so I going to fix that first.  For some reason, I didn't think of it not coming on when I had the key in the ignition prior to start-up.  My focus was on the oil pressure gauge.

Any thoughts will be helpful.  I have done a complete rebuild on an early die-cast model before with no problems.

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Clutch cover gasket 9 hole type
« on: February 05, 2014, 11:28:27 am »
Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get a 9-hole clutch gasket or do I use the 10-hole gasket?  I am using a 10-hole gasket now, but it is leaking a little bit.

Thank you,

Hi Guys,

Check out this Sandcast on Youtube and let me know if you know of any other Sandcast that would be faster?

Hello All,

I have a master cylinder, which I believe is from the year of the Sandcast bike, 1969.  I purchased a re-build kit for it on Ebay.  I have rebuilt at least 2 other CB750 master cylinders before, but I am having trouble with what may be an ealier version.  The spring, piston and seal slide into the bore hole OK, but the washer and rubber fitting with a metal ring in it are a little to large to fit in the bore hole.  Has anyone else ever had the same problem and could offer some advise on what I should do?

Thank you,
Joe K.

General Discussion / Cam Head Exhaust - Stripped Female Thread - Helicoil
« on: November 03, 2012, 10:55:13 am »
Hello All,

The number one cylinder exhaust on my sandcast cam head is stripped and I need advise on how to fix it.  This is where the exhaust flange connects to the head.  Would a helicoil work and if so, how can I determine what size to use and or what metric size is the flange screw?   ???  Does anyone have a couple spare helicoils I could purchase?  I know I would need the tool to insert it.

This may not be the proper fix, but seems like the easiest without taking the engine out of the frame, removing the head and taking it to a machine shop.

Thank you,
Joe K.

Links to Auctions and Classifieds / 836 Big Bore Set - $110.00 on Ebay
« on: October 13, 2010, 10:30:19 pm »
Hello Everyone,

Well, I am sure some of the sandcast guys will not approve of this, but I am going to keep my sandcast stock, except for the power of the motor.  I am going to make my motor an 836 cc, along with a ported head.  Not sure why I need all the power.  I guess just knowing that I have a sandcast motor, with that extra power.  I can always go back to stock with the original cylinder and piston heads.  Anyway, the set is selling cheap out of Japan right now for only $110.00, plus $35 for shipping.  A real bargain.  My friend asked the expert Hondaman about the quality, etc. and he approves, because he has purchased a few sets himself.  There are only 6 sets remaining and I am not sure if the seller has anymore.  I just thought I would let you know in case you are interested.  Maybe at least purchase a set to hold on to.  You don't want me to be the fastest sandcast out there!  Here is the link:
