New Member Introductions / one more French sandcast
« Last post by Jean Huppert on September 20, 2023, 10:55:42 am »
Hello everybody,
I bought 3 years ago the dream of my teenage, when I was 15y old in Lyon, France, the Honda dealer was a neighbour and in June 1969, the first one was blue, and when I was 64, getting older, losing my hair :

I bought the "candy blue" CB750, the colour of the Honda dealers in France, the red and gold were "only" for the customers ...

And last week, with the french CB750 club, we performed 1000km, between France and Italy through the main passes in Switzerland ... 11 CB750, only one sandcast, and no problem ...
Stelvio Pass, alt 2700m :

I'll be glad to share my experience with yours !

General Discussion / Re: Cadmium or Zinc plated hardware ??
« Last post by hondasan on September 18, 2023, 01:36:06 pm »
My gut feel based on many years of restoration of Hondas, observation of original bikes, dialogue with other knowlegeable like minded people such as KP and others on this forum, is that Cadmium plating has never featured on Honda motorcycles, certainly post 1960. Bright zinc with various passivations (clear, yellow, olive drab on more  modern bikes,......) tends to predominate except of course for the various chrome plated fasteners (top yoke pinch bolts, handlebar clamp bolts, ets).
Here in the UK cadmium plating has been pretty well impossible to get done  for a great many years  for us hobbyists for reasons of toxicity - not sure what restorers of MUCH older vehicles which would of had cadmium plated parts do.

The nuts, washers and bolts were blue zinc but some parts ware gold bright finished such as the battery box washers and spoke nipples. Some other items were tinned such as the front brake pipe and some were chromed such as the front hub bolts. Other bolts such as the fork drain bolts and seat hinge bolts could have been cad plated but I cannot say that as factual.

What means the V.I.N. (Vehicle identification number?) „xxx/E894“? Mine is „00071352“. Vin is Frame number Engine numbers are Exxx  00071352 is not a Honda number
- Is „Casting Date“ the production date? This refers to the casting date found on the rear of the top engine case usually expresses as month then day. Early engines didn't have casting dates
- „Date Sold“ means buying date of the FIRST owner? This refers to a date where the original dealer sale receipt or invoice is known/available. Not all info is available
- Owner means presumably the present owner..Yes

Sandcast 3008 / E3113 is listed on Bring a Trailer. Looks to be a very-very nice bike, with lots of NOS parts. It's being sold by Vic World, although it's not one of his a remanufactured bikes.
