One thing that I have noted with the seats, the seats sold by Yamiya  come with 10mm fixing bolts all with 8 on the head , the seat bolts are plain with no markings i do believe

General Discussion / Re: CHAIN BREAKS EARLY BIKES
« on: February 09, 2018, 04:09:15 pm »
If i remember correctly it was Dec 69 or Jan 70 I was posing to my mates on how quick my Honda accelerated from a standing start,a fist full of revs drop the clutch and  the chain snapped and shot straight out the back with great delight to the crowd as most of them owned oil leakers and not Jap Crap as the Honda's were commonly called back then. The embarrassment !!!!. The chains that Honda used I don't think were up to the power of the motor or a young bloke showing off .

I can add a short bit about Powder Coat , the process of applying powder coat is electro static for the powder application after the cleaning process of course ,there is no undercoat .Then baking in a oven .The finished coating is quite hard and brittle so is prone to cracking when twisted or flexed .So in saying that a bike frame does twist /flex etc resulting in very small cracks which allows water to get under it ,hence rust where you can't see it.Also it has a life, the sun tends to break it down in time ,resulting in dulling of colour /shine .
Powder coat was designed for static products IE roof sheeting etc.

Wish I still had it but marriage got in the way.
New knee's in 2015,still got them.
Can't ride the Velo Thruxton anymore, very hard to start with metal knee's.

In the DimDarks in Merry old England there was a thread used on Bikes both push and motor called Cycle Thread, Which the closest thing to it is BA . The reason they had different threads on there motor cycles was so you had to purchase spare bolts etc from them. Maybe the spoke thread size is a result of this . It is only a thought .

I like the way "he" or "she" put better wrinkles in the paint on the side cover than in the tank. ???

I would like to add my thought's to this debate. We all know that Honda changed to Dye cast cases at a certain time / date  simply because of costs and time involved in sandcast moulding,  They could not keep  up Production with the World Wide demand for the  750 which  they did not really anticipate. The changes to the first bikes 0-300 and 300 -1000  and 1000-2000 and so on shows that they were  in a hurried state with development / production ,hence all the confusion we have with the early Vin's.  So in saying that on the day they changed production to dyecast cases  there must have been a overlap in production of sand castcast cases,as to cover production while they perfected the dyecast system. This overlap could have been  used later on simply to keep up  production as the demand grew and use all the old stock cases .
